How to use Shortcodes

  • August 20, 2012

There are quite a few shortcodes available in KingSize WordPress.

Most of which can be seen on this demo “Shortcodes” page.

Shortcodes are designed to make adding certain options and features a little less difficult and time consuming sifting through code. A great explanation of what a shortcode is:

“WordPress shortcodes were introduced in version 2.5 and since then have proved to be one of the most useful features. The average user acting as editor has the ability to publish dynamic content using macros, without the need for programming skills.

When a shortcode is inserted in a WordPress post or page, it is replaced with some other content. In other words, we instruct WordPress to find the macro that is in square brackets ([]) and replace it with the appropriate dynamic content, which is produced by a PHP function.”

When using the shortcodes provided with the KingSize WordPress template, you locate the “Unicorn Icon” within your Rich Text Editor while creating/editing pages and posts. Just click the icon and this will open a new window/box that you can select from a drop down which of the shortcodes you’re wanting to use. Additionally, using the demo page linked above (and also in our navigation) you can copy the source code.
